Re-hacking the 80’s-part 7

previous part Changing the game Assembler format The last post hasn’t been that long but already I’ve made a big change: the source in the GIT repository is no longer in ACME format but KickAssembler. The difference isn’t that big at the moment (mostly changing !byte to .byte and comment start with // in stead … Continue reading →

Re-hacking the 80’s-part 6: code online

<previous part A short post. I haven”t updated this series in a while. That happens sometimes with things like this; it’s online, you don’t know if people are reading it and there are lots of other interesting things to do as well. Twitter trigger Actually what triggered me into action was Twitter. Some Japanese person … Continue reading →

Backup material But first: Maybe you imaginary readers would like to have the disassembled source I use, so I uploaded the currenty version. I still add comments … Continue reading →

Shaving a Yak for Christmas

A few months ago I acquired a Commodore128 computer. An old 8 bit computer from the 80’s. It came with a Star NX-10C dot matrix printer, which I didn’t really know what to do with. But with the coming holidays I thought it would be fun to print some Christmas greeting cards with it. I thought it … Continue reading →

And seeing ghosts as well? You are not well! (I made this cartoon this morning and looking at it now, I find it’s not that obvious the yellow blob is pacman. I tried to edit the picture, but there’s a bug in the loading routine, so this will have to do)

C64 browser plugin test

A while ago  I found a C64 emulator in javascript. I seemed an ideal substitute for the JAC64 browser plugin, because Java in the browser is hard to get working nowadays. I had a lot of trouble getting the javascript module working and performance was not very good under Chrome. It didn’t help that I had trouble … Continue reading →

This will have to do

Experimenting a bit with a spilt screen on my C64 SuperHires viewer. Here’s a cartoon with the standard C64 font. The font is not great. But for now this will have to do.

More progress

Still working on a cross platform super hires C64 drawing program (looking for suggestions to make the description even longer). Drawing works pretty good now, just needs a bit more intelligence. I can export the sprite layer, but must work on the bitmap layer/color layer. When drawing a random line I was reminded of a seventies … Continue reading →

Project progress

A few weeks ago I made a cartoon that was also in C64 format. I’d like to make more in that format. I tried a few programs that were good, but they never quite fitted my way of working. So I decided to make my own drawing tool. I decided on Super Hires format (hires bitmap with … Continue reading →

Inspired by Helsing

Aslan Games made a game for a 4 Hour game jam, inspired by my Helsing’s Hunt. You can play it here. Maybe it’s because the timing is different, but i found this version a lot harder! Overall I liked what they did in four hours (I made my first version in 8 days). Maybe I’ll ask … Continue reading →
